The D.C. region is currently omicron’s leading hot spot. Gov Hogan has declared a 30 day state of emergency mobilizing 1,000 members of the National Guard to assist with testing sites. Meanwhile restaurants and bars throughout the area have thrown social distancing out the window. We all know that people can catch and spread COVID even if they are fully vaccinated. So the best way to stop the spread is a combination of face masks and social distancing. Mayor Bowser has mandated proof of vaccination for all indoor venues. While this requirement may be harsh for local businesses to enforce, other local governments should not rest on their laurels.
Why hasn’t Prince George’s, Arlington, Alexandria, Montgomery and other nearby counties imposed social distancing and capacity restrictions at indoor venues? Doing so would not be too drastic and would not require any venues to shut down. It would truly be one of the easiest and most effective way to slow the spread of the Coronavirus.
