We Are Family Fundraiser

[dropcap] DC [/dropcap] Capital Striders runners know the city like the back of their hand and on Sat May 9, they will be running to over a dozen EU Embassies to experience various cultures

To support the run, DCCS and RUNINOut held a fundraiser at Lebanese Taverna for We Are Family. The event raised over $500 for We Are Family

We Are Family serves over 600 seniors in Shaw, North Capitol Street, Adams Morgan, Petworth and Columbia Heights – many of the neighborhoods where DCCS will be running through on May 9th.

The run itself is not a typical group run. That’s because the 50+ runners will be visiting over a dozen Embassies while running 13 miles through several distinct neighborhoods. In so doing, they’ll actually run pass nearly all 28 Embassies participating in the Open House — an opportunity to “Run and Visit 28 countries in one day.”

Lebanese Taverna was gracious to provide mouth watering appetizers to feed all the hungry runners while they got a chance to meet and greet and get to know their running mates in a more casual setting. Meanwhile many of the runners were happy to meet with staff and volunteers of We Are Family to learn more about the needs and services of their charitable organization.

“We are proud to partner with the 2015 EU Embassy Run. Besides raising money, we want to raise awareness to the needs of our seniors and how everyone can be of service,” said Michael Hix, Fundraising Director.

“Our staff is able to tailor a volunteer task to whatever time or gift you might have, from helping out once a year on holidays, to calling lonely seniors once a week, to making home visits or delivering groceries once or twice a month. The possibilities are truly endless,” said Mark Andersen, Co-Director of We Are Family.

Lebanese Taverna is always happy to partner with local organizations and residents who know and love this city. We’ll be cheering the runners as they run past us next Saturday, and even though we’re not in Europe, consider us your adopted EU Embassy,” said Charlie Ayoub, manager of Lebanese Taverna DC

“The event was a huge success,” said run director, Chito Peppler. It was great to get everyone together. Now let’s go run the city.”
