Mayor Bowser is considering the St. Elizabeths East campus in Congress Heights as the best home for a new hospital to replace the ailing, District-owned United Medical Center.
Political support for replacing UMC, the only hospital east of the Anacostia River,is coalescing around the St. E’s site which is also supported by D.C. Councilman Vincent Gray, D-Ward 7
UMC has been plagued by reports of poor management and safety concerns.
