[dropcap]J[/dropcap]uly 8-17 2016 – The United Nations has been hosting the world’s largest open sourced mission driven camp with over 6,000 attendees.
Unite Open Source‘s goal is to break down barriers and build collaboration amongst developers, administrators, designers, managers, etc.
Technology is a key enabler of sustainable development. Partnership within the global ICT community is one of the best ways to ensure that the member states of the UN have the tools necessary to meet their goals.
“We are committed to ensuring there are no barriers between the best developers, technologies and data available,” said Atefeh Riazi, Assistant Secretary-General and Chief Information Technology Officer.
We had the pleasure to attend four of them: Drupal, Data Viz, Database and WordPress
WordPress, built on PHP and MySQL, started 13 years ago with a single bit of code to enhance typography in blogging has grown to the largest CMS in the world.
Other camps, which we regret not attending are Meteor, Python, Search, Apps, Android, Maps, and perhaps a dozen more.
As global governments start to require that software development be open source, Open Camp becomes an amazing opportunity for governments and contractors to establish key partnerships.
