Maryland Meeting for Sports Betting Rescheduled for Thursday

The Sports Wagering Application Review Commission (SWARC) will be reviewing five sportsbook applications Thursday. This emergency meeting was rescheduled from October 14 and sports betting was legalized in MD in May.

The casinos are Horseshoe Casino Baltimore, Live! Casino Hotel Maryland, MGM National Harbor, Hollywood Casino Perryville, and Ocean Downs Casino.

If the committee grants any licenses, the applicant must still pass final testing and receive certification – a process that could take several weeks, so the sportsbook could launch by the end of November.

Sports betting online is scheduled to be launched during the second half of 2022.

HB 940, stipulated that up to 60 mobile licenses and 17 land-based sportsbook licenses can be issued.

Gov. Larry Hogan signed bill HB 940 into law in May 2021, with a list of regulations for sports betting in MD being approved in July 2021. Hogan urged the commission to expedite the launch of the state’s newly legalized sports gambling industry.
