George Michael, the British pop star renowned for his hits Careless Whisper and Last Christmas died today in London. He was 53.
In a statement, the star’s publicist said: “It is with great sadness that we can confirm our beloved son, brother and friend George passed away peacefully at home over the Christmas period.
Michael had been struggling with pneumonia for the last several years.
Michael scored seven number one singles in the UK and won three Brit Awards and two Grammys.
In 1998, Michael disclosed that he was gay after he was arrested in Beverly Hills for engaging in a lewd act.
