18th Annual Fiesta Asia  - RUNINdc

18th Annual Fiesta Asia

The Signature celebration of the 18th annual National Asian Heritage Festival occurred on  Saturday, May 20, 2023, along Pennsylvania Avenue NW between 3rd & 6th Streets in DC. Fiesta Asia Street Fair is a Key Partner Event of Passport DC and the Largest and most inclusive FREE Asian Heritage Festival in the DMV area.  Participants of all ages enjoyed various activities, including live performances by musicians, vocalists, dancers, martial artists; Pan-Asian cuisine; a shopping bazaar; interactive activities; and exhibits of traditional and contemporary Asian crafts!

There were over 50 Live Performing Acts for 8 consecutive Hours on 4 stages – Okinawan Chic; Burmese Peacock; Shaolin Kungfu; Vintage Orientale Dancing; all on the same street! The SPOTLIGHT STAGE offered open mic karaoke all day long and Bollywood dancing and meeting our dragon ENZO.

“It was a very good Fiesta Asia Day this year- all the smiling faces, glad we made so many people so happy ?,” said Wuiping Yap. “That is what it is about celebrating Asian Heritage & bringing joy.”

The food spread was titillating with Taiyaki, deep fried watermelon, squid karaage, specialty egg roll, Singapore noodles, Takoyaki, banh mi, Momo, banh mirria, and all sorts of delicious beverages such as Yuzu lemonade, bubble tea, Thai Tea, pineapple mocktail, lemongrass ginger sling and much much more.

It’s been an incredible 18 years. Some people raise a child; I created Fiesta Asia. Same Labor of Love, Sweat & Tears. From a town with barely any Asian celebrations to now with almost weekly festivities, it is indeed a welcoming sight to behold. Yet Fiesta Asia is still going strong – we are the LARGEST & MOST INCLUSIVE FREE ASIAN HERITAGE FESTIVAL IN THE DMV AREA — not bad for a minuscule volunteer crew who took an idea and a will back in 2006 and made all this happen. From the bottom of my heart — thank you.
