Wegman’s Japanese Seafood and Sushi Festival is returning for the first time since 2019, to the Wisconsin Avenue store in Washington D.C. located at the City Ridge complex in Tenleytown.
Wegmans has a long-standing relationship with Japan’s top fishmonger and retailer, Uoriki. Working closely with these partners in Tokyo, we have continued to expand our world-class sushi offerings and we have gained access to the famous Toyosu Fish Market (formerly Tsukiji.)
The Japanese Seafood and Sushi Festival will feature fresh seafood brought in directly from the Toyosu Market. Expert fishmongers from Japan will be flying in to work alongside us, honing seafood knife skills and preparing fish in advance of the festival.
The combined team of Wegmans and Uoriki will put on a spectacle unlike any other as Japanese seafood takes center stage in the front of the store. Our customers will experience beautiful fresh fish that rarely leave Japan – Kinmedai, Maaji, Sanma, Madai, Ayu, Shimaaji, Kinki, Akamutsu, and more! Our Sushi department will create unique, limited-time offerings using fish from Toyosu Market and the store will feature Japanese whisky and sake tastings, Japanese A5 Wagyu Beef, and a variety of fresh Orchids.
Not to be missed, our fishmongers will present two tuna cutting ceremonies each day at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., featuring large tunas cut with traditional long knives (Maguro no Kaitai) and a discussion about the fish and the cutting techniques. Plenty of audience participation makes this a fun and memorable experience for all!
