In Biergarten Haus, H-Street‘s little Deutschland, fans piled in shortly after lunch, all decked out in black, red and gold. The crowd was jubilant but cautious — many were expecting a close game — no one expected anything like this.
What transpired was a shocker so surreal that some began to cheer when Brazil finally scored. Either way, the entire match had become a huge celebration for the Germans who had now advanced to the finals for a record-breaking eighth time. Yes, indeed there were many records broken that day. And there wasn’t a better place to be in the entire city than in the festive Biergarten.
Elias Schmid, from Germany was spellbound. “They [Brazil] definitely missed Neymar,” he said. “But I never expected a bloodbath like this. This has never happened before…never.”
“The fans were absolutely wonderful,” said owner Arturas Vorobjovas. “We look forward to seeing everyone back this weekend.”
