The Oldest Lesbian Bar in Country Closes

Their website states that they are the oldest continually operating lesbian bar in the country, but for now, it appears that the club can no longer claim that distinction.  Shortly after New Year’s, Phase 1 closed for renovation.

However, the word on the street is that the Barracks Row bar may now close for good with no word on what will replace it.  Allen Carroll, and his late partner, Chris Jansen opened Phase 1 in 1970.

One event that will be surely missed is the Jello Wrestling competition every second Wednesday known for the booze, the women and 50 gallons of jello.

Last night, Scandal DC billed as the hottest new monthly Women’s party held it’s Phasepocalypse: Now event as a tribute to their beloved club.

Since the club closed so abruptly and many staff and customers were left wondering what’s next, they decided to get together and keep the Phase 1 spirit alive.

As for what’s the future of the club on 525 8th St SE,  no-one really knows and Allen Carroll for now is laying low.
